Television actress Kim Taylforth this week congratulated volunteers who had completed a course which will enable them to help families in the Borehamwood area who need support.
Ms Taylforth presented a group of five volunteers from the charity Home Start Borehamwood and District, which helps young families under stress, with certificates and Home Start badges.
Prior to the presentation on Monday, at The Project Office in Borehamwood's Berwick Road, the volunteers had completed a 10-week preparation course.
Home Start's chair, Sue Friend, gave a speech at the meeting and Ms Taylor, who has appeared in Brookside and is the sister of EastEnders actress Gillian, also spoke in her role as the charity's patron.
Home Start organiser Bridget Shaw said: "The volunteers really take to Kim Taylforth she is such a lovely person.
"She lives in this area and the volunteers adore her. She talks to the volunteers, and said the organisation is near to her heart."
The new volunteers, bringing the charity's total number of volunteers to nine, will be matched with families whom they will visit once a week. The presentation was followed by a Christmas party, with a buffet.
Home Start's next 10-week course for volunteers begins on Tuesday February 26 next year. Classes are weekly, from 10am to 2.30pm, and people of all ages, abilities and ethnic and religious backgrounds are invited to attend. Home Start is also looking for committee members.
