Radlett Choral Society will present a Festival of Music for Christmas, at St Teresa's Church, in Borehamwood, on Saturday, December 15, at 8pm, with mulled wine served from 7.45pm. Elstree's Plough Pub, in the High Street, will be the venue for a Christmas carol service next Friday, December 21. The half-hour service is being organised by St Nicholas Chuch Elstree and the Elstree Free Church, and will begin at 7.30pm and include a charity collection. After the service, mulled wine and mince pies will be served.

An Evening of Song at Christmas will be held by Hertsmere Acoustic Music at the Hertswood Centre, formerly the Hawksmoor Centre, in Borehamwood's Potters Lane, on Saturday December 22 at 8pm. Listeners, singers and musicians are all welcome, as well as accompanied children. The event is free, but there will be a raffle and collection in support of the Borehamwood and Elstree Twin Town Association.

Members of the congregation of St Michael and All Angels Church in Borehamwood will perform Cinderella on January 11 and 12, 2002. The performances, at the church in Brook Road, involve children and adults, and profits raised will be donated to charity. Art

The Radlett Art Society presents Art & The Magic Lantern, a lecture by Phillip Banham on 350 years of English transparent painting on glass, on Thursday, January 24, at The Radlett Centre, at 7.45pm. Members free, visitors £3. Coffee available.

Children & teenagers

Colin the Clown will entertain children during an open day at the Gingerbread House Dental Surgery in Black Lion Hill, Shenley, on Sunday, December 16. Families are invited to visit the surgery and meet the team between 11am and 4pm.

Father Christmas will be handing out free presents to children in Borehamwood's Leeming and Aycliffe Roads on Saturday December 22, between around 10.30am and 12.30pm. The event is being organised by the Hertsmere Chamber of Trade.

General

Local topics, from schools to scouts, form the subject of a current exhibition at Borehamwood and Elstree's museum, at 1 Drayton Road in Borehamwood. Other displays include: the Shenley Road shops, the Home of Rest for Horses in Borehamwood, postcard-maker Percy Redjeb and photographic companies Wellington & Ward and Dufay. Visitors can view the exhibition, until the spring 2002, on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, between 11am and 3pm. Entry is free.

People of all religious backgrounds are invited to an unusual celebration of Hanukkah and Christmas, at the International Christian Fellowship church in Manor Way, Borehamwood, on Sunday, December 16, at 5.15pm, to mark the two festivals, both of which have salvation and light as their central themes. The Shenley Cricket Centre has celebratory nights planned for Christmas and New Year's Eve. The bar at the centre, at Shenley Park in Radlett Lane, will be open for Christmas drinks on Friday, December 21, from 7pm to 11pm. The Ramblers' Association is holding a nine-and-a-half mile walk around Borehamwood and Elstree as part of its Festival of Winter Walks, which it organises nationwide.
