THOUSANDS of commuters were delayed after a man was killed by a train on the Silverlink line on Tuesday morning.
Passengers travelling on the service were held up for up to 45 minutes as the scene of the accident was cordoned off by police.
The driver of the 5.31am service from Milton Keynes to Euston reported hitting a moving object on the line between Apsley and Hemel Hempstead but could not see what it was in the dark.
However, the dead body was discovered by the driver of the next train and the area, which has four lines running through it, was closed until 8.15am.
The corpse was taken to the mortuary at Hemel Hempstead Hospital after police said the death was not being treated as suspicious.
Meanwhile, more than 100 trains were delayed and commuters were informed of the incident through public announcements on trains and at stations.
