December 6, 2000 9:34: DEFENSIVE mistakes let Bishop's Stortford down at Hockerill School as they lost 3-0 to top-of-the-table Blueharts.

The visitors took an early lead with a shot from just outside the circle. They went further ahead when slack marking allowed a Blueharts attacker space to divert a cross in from four yards.

Stortford looked dangerous when Dan Solomon made an incisive run down the right and into the circle but he was only awarded a long corner.

Following some reorganisation at half time, Stortford allowed Blueharts fewer chances. The visitors were reduced to speculative crosses, hoping for deflections. But one of these resulted in a goal when a bad mistake allowed a simple tap-in for the visitors.

Stortford then started to move the ball forward quicker. A good run from Vernon Brown down the right almost resulted in a goal and Tom Bull's mazy run gave him a shot from 12 yards out but he failed to hit the target.

Stortford skipper manager John Shepherd said: "Defensively, I saw little to impress me today but I'm sure we will perform better than that in future."

On Saturday, December 9, Stortford visit Ipswich & East Suffolk.
