Marlon King, Barnet's highly-rated 20-year-old striker joined Gillingham, newly-promoted to the Nationwide First Division, for £255,000 on Wednesday.

King, who joined Barnet after being spotted playing fo Dulwich Hamlet Reserves, two seasons ago, has been hotly pursued by several clubs.

He's pacey with a clinical finish as he demonstrated with two tremendous goals in Barnet's 2-1 win at Peterborough in November.

With Barnet chairman Tony Kleanthous having reported a £500,000 loss on last season and Barnet faced with a £250,000 outlay for expanding the crowd capacity at Underhill to 5,500 the substantial fee paid by the Gills is a most welcome financial boost for the Bees.
