A PUB which caused five years of problems for local residents has been refused a licence.

At a licensing meeting at Three Rivers District Council on Friday, April 7, an application made by Wellington Pubs to reopen the Jet public house in Hayling Road, South Oxhey, was unanimously refused.

The Jet closed down three months ago and a new licence had to be applied for before it could re-open.

The council received six letters opposing a new licence, as well as a petition.

South Oxhey councillor, Kerron Cross, has led the campaign to oppose the licence.

He said: "Over the past five years we have had nothing but trouble from The Jet pub.

"The general feeling is that the pub is not satisfactorily situated, being in the middle of a residential area. There have been problems with fights and drunken behaviour for about 15 years, but the past five have been the worst.

"There have been regular problems with people drinking and smoking outside the front of the pub especially late at night."

Wellington Pubs declined to comment on the council's decision.
