F you want to buy any type of military based combat game the first place to turn is towards the Ubisoft logo on any new release.

This is especially true of its latest third-person shooter on the 360, Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter (GRAW). I had the good fortune to play its predecessor on the Xbox and can only say what an underrated game it was. But what Ubisoft has done (as you would both hope and expect) is to take the original formula of a four-man special forces team, add plenty of top gadgets and weapons of the future and then place full air and ground support at your command.

The results are spectacular to say the least as you take on a rebel Mexican general, save the existing one and even protect your very own user of Air Force One. There are troop rescues, dirty bombs and camps full of enemy soldiers all wrapped up in some very tough environments for you to negotiate.

Fortunately you come equipped with a remote control drone which allows you to zoom in, conduct a quick scan and then get the hell out before too much damage is done.

This gives you a vital advantage over your enemies who are all lit up like Christmas trees on the brilliant heads up display (HUD) which allows you to plot routes through the battlefield.

Dotted on some of the levels are special Ghost recon troop transports which allow you to checkpoint and change your current weapon as well as your team members choosing from rifleman, gunners and grenadiers. .

As the combat thickens and your objectives get ever harder you are given some fantastic support vehicles like a Bradley APC and an Apache strike helicopter.

Although you cannot physically drive each one you can order each to attack various targets highlighted on the HUD then sit back as the little camera view from your support shows you its view as it dispatches the target.

There are also solo missions for you to embark on and these can be pretty tough affairs especially if you are armed with just a sniper rifle and a pistol.

And as if all this was not enough then there's an absolutely fantastic online option on Xbox Live which combines plenty of gameplay variation with the customary gorgeous graphics and (as of yet) not a single sign of slow down.

All this spells another triumph for Ubisoft.
