A Watford 10k runner is using the event to springboard more charitable efforts later this year.

Wil Corker is going to use his donations to volunteer at the 2010 Homeless World Cup in Brazil in September.

The 30-year-old football fan will travel to Rio de Janiero to raise awareness of homelessness and “inspire homeless people to re-build their lives through football”.

He is aiming to raise £2,600 by cycling, organising events, designing websites and running - starting with the Watford 10k, in Cassiobury Park, on May 3.

Wil said: “It’s going to be hard work, but I’ve got lots planned already. I’ll be running in three events including my first half marathon and will be organising other events too, which I hope will be great fun.”

The annual football event, which changes location each year, claims to use football as a trigger to inspire and energise homeless people around the world to change their own lives.

Wil added: “This is a fantastic opportunity to create positive futures for so many people and to be able to do it through football is wonderful. I’m really excited to be part of it.”
