More than 200 people enjoyed music and dancing, food and fireworks at a spectacular Diwali party in Watford.

Members of Watford India Association and the Hertfordshire branch of UK Asian Women's Conference celebrated the festival of lights at the Meriden Community Centre, in Garsmouth Way, on Saturday.

Visitors watched a musical show, created colourful “Rangoli” displays, danced to Indian folk and Bollywood music, saw a fireworks display and enjoyed a range of Indian food.

Ravi Kalia, chairman of Watford Indian Association, said: “The event has been a resounding success and it gives me immense pleasure to see culturally diverse people coming together to celebrate Diwali in a spirit of sharing goodwill and have a good time.”

“There was a true spirit of teamwork between the two organisations which resulted in this highly successful event,” added Jyoti Gaglani, chairman of UK Asian Women's Conference (Herts).

The two organisations have a shared vision to have a centre of excellence for performing arts and culture in Watford and are planning to partner more similar events in the future.
