The FA Cup is nearing its final stages but, for one team in Bushey, the road to Wembley is about to begin.

The Bushey Manor School A-team has made it through the local play-offs, to represent the Watford area in a national competition that could see them play at the world famous stadium.

Led by teacher Demelza Fairbrother, who set up the team, the boys, aged between 10 and 11, will now compete against other schools in an area tournament to qualify for the regional finals.

Four years ago the school was without a football team, but, since Miss Fairbrother's involvement, the A-team has been named league champions within Bushey and a B-team is well established.

The Year 4 teacher said: "It is such an adrenaline rush when they gel as a team. I have a passion for school sports and like to see the kids competing and working together - this gives them a great opportunity at grass roots level."

Game On coaching sponsors the team, which trains once-a-week after school, and in the squad of eight, two of the boys play at professional academies.

Xavier Amaechi, 10, plays for the Fulham Academy, while Cameron Clark, 11, trains in the Watford youth scheme.

Xavier said: "I'm looking forward to the tournament - it would be a really good feeling and a really good experience to get to Wembley. I have never been and to go and play there would be amazing."

The area finals of the npower Football League Under 11 Kids Cup will take place at Queens' School, in Aldenham Road, Bushey, on March 16.

The winners will then compete against other regional finalists for a place in the grand final, to be held at Wembley Stadium.

Miss Fairbrother added: "The parents are going mad for it, there is an uproar they're so excited. It looked unachievable a few years ago but the kids are so committed and we're really looking forward to the next round."
