More than 100 spectators turned out on Sunday to remember the life of a popular football fan.

Jamie Godden, who died suddenly in June 2010 at the age of 37, was again remembered with a fundraising football match at Oxhey Jets FC.

The popular Arsenal fan, of Carpenders Park, passed away as a result of heart failure. His friends and family have since made every effort to raise funds for the British Heart Foundation in his memory.

Sunday marked the second annual clash between The Partridge and Old Alpertonians – teams that Mr Godden played for.

Old Alpertonians ran out 6 – 5 winners at The Boundary Stadium before players and spectators decamped to the pub to watch Arsenal’s dismal 8 – 2 defeat to Manchester United.

Brother Steve Godden said: “It was absolutely brilliant. There were two very evenly matched teams and it was a real end to end game. We had a great turn out for Jamie, with about 100 people at the game and more than double that at the pub afterwards.”

The only down side was the Arsenal result – but we raised a lot of money for the British Heart Foundation and a lot of his old friends turned up to show their support as well.

“I don’t think Jamie would have enjoyed the Arsenal result much but at least Tottenham lost as well.”
