Two men have been arrested in Radlett on suspicion of burglary, following a police chase.

At about 5.10pm yesterday evening, police were called to reports of a burglary in Merry Hill Road, Bushey.

Following a short pursuit the suspects ran off from a vehicle. Two men were arrested a short time later in Watling Street, Radlett.

Eyewitnesses took to Twitter to report seeing about 20 police cars and a helicopter in the High Street at around 5.45pm.

Sarah Spence, police spokeswoman, said: "The number of officers and police resources seen to be dealing with this matter may have appeared excessive, however, the level of response, and specialist police units used is indicative of our commitment to tackle crime of this nature and bring police pursuits to a safe conclusion.

"I am aware of a number of members of the public who assisted by either making 999 calls or directing officers at the scene. We are most grateful for this assistance."

Police are appealing for any further witnesses who may have seen people running through rear gardens in the centre of Radlett.

Members of the public are also requested to remain vigilant and report any vehicles acting suspiciously to police, particularly containing groups of young males.
