Abbots in Transition will be on hand to collect empty drink bottles and cans from the finish line at this weekend’s Abbot Langley Tough Ten.

The organisation dedicated to helping residents across Abbots Langley reduce their carbon footprint and fuel bills, will pick up and squash cans and put them in to wheelie bins provided by Three Rivers District Council, due for collection on Monday morning.

The 30th anniversary race will take place on Sunday (October 7) where families and tough runners will take part in the races that include the 1.5k at 9.30am, 3k and 5k runs at 10am, as well as the 10k event at 10.30am.

Ian Bond, from Abbots in Transition, said: "We are looking for helpers to assist with this as so far we only have two people, me and my wife Denise to do this. "There are expected to be about 500 to collect and squash."

To volunteer, arrive at the finish line at Manor House Grounds, Gallows Hill Lane, Abbots Langley at around 11am.

Gardening gloves will be provided.
