Steve Finn was unable to take any wickets as England crashed to a 55-run defeat in Hamilton as New Zealand levelled the three-match Twenty20 international series at 1-1 earlier today.
Having taken three for 39 in Saturday’s impressive 40-run success in Auckland, captain Stuart Broad opted to give the new ball to spinner James Tredwell instead of the Watford-born seamer after winning the toss.
The hosts got off to a good start, with Martin Guptill (47) and Hamish Rutherford (40) putting on 75 for the first wicket. Captain Brendon McCullum then cracked five sixes en route to a 38-ball 74 as the Kiwis finished on 192 for six, with Finn taking nought for 33 from his four overs.
In reply, England never threatened the target after slumping to 24 for three. Jos Buttler made a spirited 54 but Finn was left stranded on five not out as his side were dismissed for 137 in 19.3 overs.
The tourists will now look to bounce back in the series decider in Wellington on Friday.
