Watford striker Matej Vydra has been named the Championship Player of the Year at tonight’s Football League Awards.
The 20-goal hit man beat Crystal Palace forward Glenn Murray and Blackpool’s Tom Ince to the accolade, which was voted for by managers in the divison.
The Hornets forward, who is currently away on international duty with the Czech Republic, was in with a chance of an awards double as he was also shortlisted for the Johnstone’s Paint Young Player of the Year. But this category went to Ince, with Manchester United’s Wilfried Zaha, who is back on loan at Crystal Palace, also nominated.
Academy striker Bernard Mensah was also nominated for the Championship Apprentice of the Year but missed out to Nottingham Forest’s Dimitar Evtimov.
