Watford won their fourth game on the hop to move into the top half of the second division with a 7-2 win over Bradford City, a month after sitting in the relegation zone.
Gary Penrice scored for the sixth game running since his signing, but Paul Wilkinson was man-of-the-match, scoring twice and setting up another two for Lee Richardson and Barry Ashby.
The run proved to be a false dawn for manager Steve Harrison who was to leave the club 16 games and only four wins later.
