Torquay United were the visitors to Vicarage Road in the first round of the Associate Members' Cup.
Both a frozen pitch and a covering of powdery snow presented obstacles to the game's progress, but partly in the interests of avoiding further fixture congestion it went ahead.
Robert Page's first senior goal and a penalty from David Connolly secured victory before Paul Watson grabbed a late consolation for The Gulls.
The Main Stand was accurately adjudged adequate to cater for the 2,298 crowd, and the second half was punctuated by snowball attacks on the unfortunate referee's assistant manning the adjacent edge of the pitch.
