Queens’ School pupil Tom Collyer will represent the United Kingdom at the Cadet Class World Championships in Weymouth in August.
The 14-year-old, who was previously a member at Aldenham Sailing Club, trained heavily throughout the winter for the selection series which was held in April and May.
Eighteen races were spread over three events at Datchet Water, Weymouth, and the Year Nine pupil finished in eight place - the top ten were chosen for the UK.
Collyer, who is three years younger than the age limit for cadet class sailing, is one of the youngest members of the team and said: "I can’t wait to represent the country for the first and hopefully not last time.
"It's taken me years of training and a lot of hard work. It took five or six years of learning how to sail and two years of the campaign towards this goal.
He continued: "My dad taught me how to sail while my mum provided much support on land.
"I wasn't happy with my results at last year's National Championships and as a result of this I did not get in to the National Junior Squad which was hard to deal with.
"I trained hard over the winter and sorted out the weak points of my racing. I am ecstatic about having qualified to for the World Championships."
