Watford signed Nick Wright from Carlisle United for a fee of £100,000.
The effervesecent winger was to play a prominent role in the subsequent promotion season, his appearances frequently consisting of a whirlwind 70 minutes before being substituted in utter exhaustion.
Most memorably, Wright was to score the club's first goal at Wembley Stadium with a bicycle kick in the 1999 play-off final, but an injury picked up early the following season ultimately ended his career.
