West Herts Sevenths beat Rickmansworth Fourths 4-2 in one of only two games to go ahead as the weather decimated the club’s schedule on Saturday.
Kim Waddup opened the scoring when a defender deflected his shot into the goal, and it was soon 2-0 as Ryan Hughes connected well to smash home from a short distance out.
Hughes made it 3-0, following up after Pal Seyan’s short corner strike had been saved. Rickmansworth then hit back just before the break to reduce the deficit.
The Stags struck again immediately after half time when Gurdeep Seyan made it 4-1, and despite further close chances for Hughes, it stayed that way until the visitors got their second just before the final whistle.
The ladies’ Fourths lost 3-1 at table-toppers Shefford & Sandy in the day’s only other fixture.
West Herts begin their indoor season on Sunday as they compete at the East Indoor Championships at Oaklands College.
