Troy Deeney says the attack on Hornets supporter Nic Cruwys was the turning point in Watford’s season and the striker was at pains to make sure he is not forgotten among the promotion celebrations.
Cruwys, 44, was left in a coma following an unprovoked attack after Watford’s 2-2 draw at Wolverhampton Wanderers on March 7 but has since been able to walk with assistance and it is hoped he will be moved closer to home.
Watford supporters again applauded for Cruwys throughout the 44th minute of the Golden Boys’ victory at Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday. Promotion was clinched later that afternoon.
And speaking ahead of the Hornets’ title decider at home to Sheffield Wednesday tomorrow, the skipper took time to mention the milkman.
He said: “I think in all the jubilations of going up there has not been a mention about Nic for a while. That for us was our turning point in the season.
“We hear he is on the mend so hopefully he can be seeing us next season and I think that is a point no-one has made for a while.”
