Hornets midfielder Miguel Layun has not been included in Mexico's squad for the Copa America but could still be involved in the Gold Cup later this summer.
El Tri head coach Miguel Herrera announced his squad for the Copa America, which begins on June 11, earlier today and Watford's Layun is not included.
That may not have come as a surprise to the 26-year-old who said last month: "I think they (Mexico) just want me to play one competition. I think I will go to the Gold Cup because it is important for us to win that one."
The Copa America is the South American equivalent of UEFA's European Championships but incorporates Mexico and Jamaica this year too. The winners will automatically qualify for the 2017 Confederations Cup in Russia.
The Gold Cup begins on July 7 and sees countries from North America, Central America and the Caribbean in action.
Layun represented his country at last summer's World Cup. He has won 23 caps and scored three times for the Central American nation since making his debut in 2013.
