Watford head coach Marco Silva has hinted that Steven Berghuis' departure from Vicarage Road after making clear only players "who want to be here" will be in his Premier League squad next season.

Berghuis is expected to complete a move to Feyenoord in the coming days, having spent last season on loan at De Kuip from the Hornets.

Reports in Holland suggest only Watford's asking price, believed to be around €7 million, was a sticking point as the two clubs negotiate the winger's future.

And while stopping short of saying Berghuis wanted to leave, Silva made dropped the strongest indication yet of the Dutchman's wishes at his first press conference since taking charge of the Hornets earlier today.

He said: "It’s not only about Steven, but it’s important for everyone to understand. We want the best players in our squad, and when we talk about Steven it’s clear to see his quality.

"It’s important for us to keep the players in the squad who want to be in the squad. That’s not about Steven, that’s about everyone. For us to fight and be a team, we have to stay together, and go to war together.

"If the players want to stay, then they are in the squad. But we will see what happens."
