Stefano Okaka has been ruled out for the remainder of the season but Watford have been boosted by the news Troy Deeney is fit to face Tottenham Hotspur.

Javi Gracia confirmed Okaka, who produced a strong performance alongside Deeney on Saturday, will not feature in the remaining three games of the campaign.

He had better news about skipper Deeney, whose season was feared to be in jeopardy after he left the 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace wearing a protective boot.

“Okaka has a serious problem and I can’t explain his injury, but I think we will miss him for the rest of the season,” Gracia said.

“Troy had a problem in the last game with his ankle and today has been the first day he has trained with the team. I think he will be in the best condition for the next game.”

With Deeney having limited training time in the build up to the Spurs game and Okaka out, Watford’s genuine attacking options are limited.

Roberto Pereyra limped off against the Eagles and has also played only a small part in training, but Gracia could at least provide positive news of Gerard Deulofeu who has stepped up his recovery.

“Pereyra had a problem in the last game and today is the first day he has worked with the team and only for a small part of the session,” the head coach said.

“We will see how much he does in the next sessions and decide on Monday if he will be available for the game.

“Deulofeu started training with the team this week and I am optimistic in the next games, maybe Tottenham as well, he can play.”

Elsewhere, Tom Cleverley remains someway off making a first team return and Nathaniel Chalobah is training with the team but is not yet fit enough to play.

Gracia also revealed Younes Kaboul’s recovery has taken another turn for the worse after a season in which the defender has played just 151 minutes of football.

He said: “Kaboul had a problem this week and is not training with the team. It is only a problem for some days not long-term.”
