Watford’s Nathaniel Chalobah will train with Gareth Southgate’s England for the next two weeks to aid their preparations for the World Cup next month.

Southgate is currently without his full 23-man squad, with players from Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool not due to link up with the team for another week due to their involvement in the FA Cup and Champions League finals.

As a result, Chalobah has been drafted into bolster England’s numbers alongside Manchester City’s Angus Gunn and Chelsea’s Mason Mount, as the Three Lions kick off their preparations for the World Cup which kicks off on June 14.

West Brom’s Jake Livermore and Burnley’s James Tarkowski, who are currently on England’s standby list for the tournament, are also training with the squad at St George’s Park.

Chalobah, who returned to the Hornets last summer from Chelsea in a permanent move, is well known to Gareth Southgate having worked under him with England’s Under-21s and the midfielder was handed his first senior call-up by the Three Lions’ boss last September.

It has proven to be a frustrating season back at Vicarage Road for Chalobah, with a fractured knee-cap sustained in training back in September practically ruling him out for the entire campaign.

However, the young midfielder made a welcome return to action on the final day of the Premier League season, coming on for the final 20 minutes at Old Trafford as Watford were beaten 1-0 by Manchester United.
