Andre Carrillo found the net in memorable fashion as Peru claimed a commanding 3-0 win over Saudi Arabia on Sunday.

The winger opened the scoring for his country after controlling the ball well on his chest and volleying home in emphatic fashion from the edge of the box.

Captain Paulo Guerrero, who was returning after a Swiss court chose to loft a suspension for testing positive for cocaine while it assessed the forward’s appeal, then added two more goals to seal the convincing win.

The win continued a strong run of form for Peru, who beat Scotland 2-0 last week and complete their World Cup preparations with a friendly against Sweden on Saturday.

Elsewhere, Sebastian Prodl played the full 90 minutes as Austria produced an upset to shock world champions Germany in a 2-1 win on Saturday.

Germany took the lead through Mesut Ozil’s 11th minute effort, but second half strikes from Martin Hinteregger and Alessandro Schopf turned the game in the host’s favour.

It was a less satisfying weekend for Craig Cathcart as Northern Ireland were condemned to a 3-0 defeat against Costa Rica.

The centre-back played 73 minutes of a game which saw goals from Johan Venegas, Joel Campbell and Francisco Calvo seal the win for Costa Rica.
