Bovingdon began life in Spartan South Midlands League Division Two with a thumping 4-0 win at home to Old Broadfields United to hand manager Martin Standen a winning start to life in management.

Last season’s Herts Senior County League champions made it the perfect start to life in their new league thanks to goals from Ed Canham, Jay Welsh, Connor Deadman and Matt Standen.

They will look to build on that encouraging start when they host Mursley United at Green Lane on Saturday, kick-off 3pm.

Mursley will arrive in confident mood, however, having dispatched Unite MK 5-1 on the opening day of the season.

Oxhey Jets were edged out in their opening Premier Division game against Crawley Green 3-2, but it was not without its fair share of controversy.

Jets fell 2-0 behind – the first a soft penalty for tugging on an opponents’ shirt that was converted by Danny Watson, and the second from Billy Lobjoit on the half-hour mark.

The hosts rallied, however, and Nick Kerley netted with a half-volley after 32 minutes to halve the arrears.

And they were level two minutes into the second half when Green goalkeeper Bartlomiej Pedrycz spilt a shot and Kerley was on hand to score his second.

However it was Crawley who would leave with all three points after substitute Oluwanimilo Ajigbolamu scored the winner with 13 minutes remaining.

On Tuesday night, Oxhey enjoyed better fortunes as they secured their first victory of the season with a narrow 1-0 success at London Colney.

An effort from distance courtesy of Luke Jones was enough to settle the contest.

Tring Athletic kicked off their Premier Division campaign with a 2-0 win over Baldock Town to make it two wins from two competitive games.

Following up their Herts Charity Shield success against Hatfield Town in mid-week, Ashton Campbell netted for the first time in a competitive fixture since his move from Berkhamsted and Kieran Turner added his second of the season to hand Athletic an ideal start to their league campaign.

There were contrasting fortunes, meanwhile, for Leverstock Green as they slipped to a 2-0 defeat at London Colney on the opening day.

Goals from Zack Holding and substitute Chris Griffin consigned Levy to defeat in their first league match of 2018/19.

On Tuesday evening, Tring played out a 1-1 draw with Leverstock Green at the Grass Roots Stadium but the hosts would have been desperately disappointed not to have secured a second consecutive victory.

Campbell made it two goals in as many games for Athletic 11 minutes from the end after a goalmouth scramble, but Jonathan Lacey levelled from the spot deep into stoppage time for Levy after Tring’s goalkeeper had been shown a red card.
