Just a couple of hours after Watford's victory against Tottenham, which included a goalscoring captain's performance from Troy Deeney - Tales from the Vicarage Live kicked off at the Watford Palace Theatre with news of their new volume announced.

The new book entitled Captains, the seventh volume of the popular series, features 11 former Watford captains including the current leader of the Hornets.

The book which is now available to pre-order here sees Deeney discuss his time at Vicarage Road - from his arrival in 2010 through to becoming captain and now playing a key role as an ambassador for the football club on and off the field.

Within his chapter he discusses his highs and lows, his brutal honesty and, amongst other fascinating insights, one particular moment under Walter Mazzarri where he decided it would be best that he would be best placed to do the pre match team talk rather than the head coach.

Alongside Deeney in the book, which is written by journalist and lifelong Watford supporter Mike Walters, there are contributions from captains that span more than half a century - Keith Eddy, Dennis Booth, Pat Rice, Wilf Rostron, Les Taylor, Andy Hessenthaler, Rob Page, Neil Cox, Gavin Mahon and John Eustace.

Watford Observer:

The night at a packed Palace Theatre featured three of the captains that feature in the book - Rostron, Taylor and Cox - on stage with Sky Sports presenter and Watford fan Adam Leventhal.

The atmosphere in the theatre was already at fever pitch due to the victory over Tottenham that had preceded it and it made for another great night of Watford nostalgia, laughter and at times emotional revelations from the three captains that enjoyed a variety of experiences at Vicarage Road.

Rostron led Watford into their adventure into Europe and beyond including reaching the FA Cup final in 1984 before he was denied the opportunity to lead his team out due to his sending off against Luton Town in the league a few weeks before.

That opened the door for Taylor to fill in for Rostron at Wembley against Everton, a day that remains one of his proudest moments.

Cox, meanwhile, had to captain amidst a backdrop of financial uncertainty under Ray Lewington, but the team he led did manage to reach the semi-finals in both the FA and League Cups.

The book will officially hit the shelves in November when the next Tales from the Vicarage Live event takes place featuring four more men who wore the armband - Booth, Page, Eustace and Mahon. There are a handful of tickets still available for the event here.
