Daryl Janmaat is set to miss up to six weeks of the season after sustaining a knee injury.
The Dutch right-back has been an ever-present in the Premier League for Watford this season and appeared to come through Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Fulham unscathed.
He was not included in Watford’s squad for the Carabao Cup clash with Tottenham Hotspur last night, which ended in the Hornets being dumped out of the competition on 4-2 on penalties after a 2-2 draw.
With Janmaat expected to be out until mid-November at least, Watford boss Javi Gracia will have to look elsewhere for cover on the right of defence.
Kiko Femenia spent much of last season as the Hornets’ first-choice right-back but has also been used further forward by Gracia.
The head coach could also opt to introduce summer signing Marc Navarro, who has so far only been used in Carabao Cup clashes and was substituted with cramp on Wednesday.
