Herts Sunday Junior Cup Round One

It was an excellent morning for Watford Sunday League clubs with eight teams advancing after their ties served up a total of 57 goals, an average of more than six per game.

White Horse won the day’s highest scoring match, triumphing 8-5 at St Albans (Deaf) YFC after an unlikely eight different players had netted a goal each.

The scorers were Nelson Gomes, Ralph Thompson, Phuttakhoo Surawat, Karim Gregory, Josh Bulley, Tom Rillstone, Cartoon Phanithi and Humza Khan.

It has been a good start to the season for Oxhey Athletic and they enjoyed a 7-0 win at Bowman Athletic, with Connor Murphy making it 12 goals in two games with a hat-trick. Jay Jarvis notched a double and there were singles from Joey Barton and Liam Coles.

The other side to win away against non-WSL opposition were The Victoria who beat Adeyfield Tudors 5-2. Dan Bourne and Ben Stallard scored two each and Charlie Wharton netted the other.

The other team to come out triumphant against opponents from outside of the league were Woodlands United who edged out The Goat 4-3 thanks to goals from Darren Obrien, Liam Laverick, Simom Schofield and Klevis Dervishi.

The four all-WSL ties saw AFC Leavesden win the North Watford derby at Garston Park, beating Skyline 3-1 after trailing 1-0 at the break to a Devante Austin goal.

Leavesden came out a lot stronger in the second half and equalised soon after the restart when Mark Riddick headed home a corner.

That goal saw Leavesden take control of the tie and midway through the half Riddick turned provider, puling the ball back for Lucas Halligan to tuck away the second.

Alex Diaz completed the victory with an unstoppable strike into the roof of the net late on.

Hews’ experienced side saw off Croxley RBL 5-0 through a brace apiece from Joe Manfredini and Nathan Pooley and one from Andy Noonan.

Inter beat Hertfordshire Harriers 3-2 through goals from Gareth Heavey, Chris Stead and Pascher. Jacob Jull and Luke Everitt replied for the home side.

Goals from George Adams and Craig Putman were not enough to save Chess United from a 4-2 exit against NW, while ACS Milan went down narrowly 2-1 to Berkhamsted Athletic, Spencer Cocomazzi scoring the goal.

With Oakview’s game at St Josephs called off due to a lack of players for the home side, Rifle Volunteer joined them at the top of the table with two wins after a 2-0 away victory at Evergreen.

Both goals came in the opening half-an-hour. First, Hugh Trayte used his pace to break the Evergreen back line and nudge the ball past the oncoming keeper. Then in near identical fashion, a long ball from Lewis Koch put Ben Goode through on goal and he calmly rounded the keeper to double the lead.

Evergreen were soon reduced to 10 men, but despite having a man advantage their opponents couldn’t add to the score line, missing two good chances in the second half, although their hosts also failed to capitalise on their own opportunities to get back into the game.

Fox & Hounds have their first win of the season after an 8-3 thumping of Rickmansworth Town.

Fox took an early 2-0 lead after goals from Alex Witham, who went on to complete a first-half hat-trick from around 40 yards out.

Rickmansworth pulled themselves back into the game when they scored two quick strikes before half-time through Bert Adams, but the second period saw the goals continue to flow for Fox thanks to Josh Noyes, Michael Edwards, Ben Spaul and Tiago Campos.

Witham also got his fourth with Adam Seabrook getting the sole Rickmansworth goal in the second period.

West Herts have a first win and four points from three games after defeating Old Fullerians 3-1.

They had to do it the hard way, coming back from a Charley Hailey goal on 20 minutes, making no mistake with a right-footed finish after Ryan Woosley had chased the ball to the by-line.

West Herts got back on terms 10 minutes before the break through Toki Odugbesan and then took control in the second half, centre-back Tom Smith heading in from a corner before Odugbesan netted his second to make sure of the points.

Chorleywood Club beat Old Danes Athletic 2-1 in the Chorleywood derby.

Old Danes had a dream start when they went ahead in the second minute when a cross by Ross Bennett was met by a Colin Spooner flick-on and was finished at the back post by Will Holian.

Athletic then held the lead until the final six minutes when two goals in two minutes won the game for club as Robbie Martin equalised before Clement Asante struck the winner.

Division One

FC Unicorn made it five wins out of five with a 5-1 victory over Cassiobury Rangers.

Unicorn opened the scoring when Kane Waterford’s flick-on was collected by Chrishan Casey who volleyed across goal for Jamie Calvin and he made no mistake.

Louis Soper powered the ball into the roof of the net from 12 yards to double the advantage, but Cassiobury halved the deficit just before half-time when Sam Mortimer’s cross went all the way in.

Rangers had the better of the early exchanges in the second half, but they couldn’t make the pressure pay. And they were left to rue those missed chances when Danny Warwick drove through the Cassiobury defence and fired the ball into the bottom corner of the net.

Three became four soon after when Warwick’s through ball found Calvin and he outpaced a defender and took it round the goalkeeper to finish emphatically.

The fifth goal came when Waterford beat the offside trap, got down the line and set up debutant Dennis Fraser who calmly finished.

Bushey Sports Club got the better of AFC Bedmond in a seven-goal thriller.

The first half saw only one goal scored by Rob Gradwell to give Bushey a 1-0 lead, but the floodgates were to open after the break.

Lamar St Cyr brought Bedmond level with a cross-come-shot from the wing, but Gradwell scored a penalty to restore the Bushey advantage.

A Sam Hakner spot-kick brought Bedmond level for a second time, but Stephen Smyley and Dan Branch were to give Bushey a two-goal advantage, although Hakner did net again.

Croxley have a first league win of the season thanks to a 4-1 victory over Langleybury CC through Carl Pettit’s double and a goal each for Dan Wyatt and Conor Flanagan. Glenn Thompson netted for the visitors.

FC Woodside beat Colne Valley 1-0 thanks to Joe Fox’s winner in the final seconds of the game, this coming after his side were reduced to 10 men following Louis Bamgboye’s sending off in the second half.

Division Two

Bushey Rangers made it three wins out of three with a 7-0 victory over Sun Regent Sports.

Chad Flaherty led the way with a hat-trick and Johnny Vasey, George Davies, Gary Yervey and an own goal completed the tally.

The Tree also scored seven as they beat Ricky AFC 7-1 with Harry Rush netting four times, Nathan Davis twice and a single for Callum Lee. Shane Kitts got the Ricky consolation.

Everett Rovers enjoyed a 4-0 win over Ripstone after Jake Knight had opened the scoring after two minutes.

However, Rovers had to wait until the second period to go further ahead as Knight added a second just after the break, with Meshach Williams and Harry Pofeniuo completing the win.
