Among the many positives Watford could take from their 2-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers, Adam Masina’s first Premier League start was one of the most obvious.

Masina ensured the loss of Jose Holebas, who has been a revelation at left-back this term, to suspension was little concern for the Hornets as he put in a composed display.

It could well be that the Italian’s efforts go unrewarded with Holebas available for selection once more when Huddersfield Town visit Vicarage Road on Saturday.

Nonetheless, Masina reflects fondly on making his first top flight start and says he is prepared to play whenever he is called upon.

“I worked so much in pre-season and in the first three months, so I am happy for my full debut, to start from the beginning of the match,” he told the club website.

“The season is long, but if the team needs me, I am ready.

“We worked so hard in the week and we were ready for this match.”

Masina completed a summer switch to Watford from Bologna and arrived in England with a reputation as a left-back with both quality and potential for growth.

He is still adapting to the English game having made four outings in the league and Carabao Cup so far and says there are clear differences between Serie A and the Premier League.

The 24-year-old said: “The Premier League had a lot of intensity, while the Italian league is more tactical and it is different.”
