Watford’s away clash at Newcastle United this weekend will be refereed by David Coote, with the official taking charge of a Watford game for the first time since receiving criticism from Troy Deeney.
The Hornets’ skipper did not hold back on his opinion of the official’s performance when they last met at Bournemouth earlier this month and was subsequently fined £20,000 by the FA.
Deeney accused the referee of “bottling it” when it came to making big decisions during the match.
The FA Cup fourth round tie will also be the first match involving Watford in which VAR will be available, meaning Coote will have extra help with his decision making, should he need it.
Martin Atkinson will be in charge of the VAR for the game.
