Andre Gray has spoken of his confidence after Watford's good pre-season results.

The former Burnley man scored four times during the Hornets' warm up matches ahead of the Premier League returning this weekend.

Gray opened the scoring against Ajax and scored against Bayer Leverkusen before finding the net twice against Real Sociedad in the Graham Taylor match day.

Speaking to the club website after the game against the Spanish side, Gray said he was confident going into the new season.

“I tried to keep positive and score a goal – and I managed to do it,” he said.

"It’s only pre-season but it’s good for us strikers to get a goal … it’s good for confidence.

“I always like to play on the shoulder – it’s a strong part of my game.

"Nothing was going for me and I kept losing the ball. In the second half I stepped away from coming short, stayed on the shoulder and stuck to my strengths.

" My confidence built as the game went on and I got two great balls and managed to score.”

Despite scoring and helping his team win, Gray said he was still not too pleased with his and the team's performance.

However, the striker believes it is better for the club to get bad performances out of their system.

"Today was more about team performance and our shape," he said.

“I wouldn’t say it’s the best game I’ve played for Watford.

“I don’t think I played too well today. We’ve got a lot to work on but I’d rather do it this week and get the bad stuff out."
