Javi Gracia was not surprised to see his team produce moments of quality against Coventry City, as they progressed to the third round of the Carabao Cup.

In particular, the Hornets' head coach was impressed with a finish from substitute Adalberto Penaranda, but insisted that it was something he was used to seeing.

However, the Spaniard wants to see the Venezuelan produce similar moments more regularly.

"It was a great goal," he said of Penaranda's strike.

"We scored three good goals. It doesn't surprise me, I know Pena is able to do these things, but he needs to do it more often and constantly.

"Maybe he didn't have many chances to play before today because he did it well, I'm happy for him."

Gracia said the result was one that will help the side's confidence ahead of a crucial away match on Saturday at Newcastle.

However, he said there is still improvements to be made.

"It was a good performance, not only a performance, we got a good result as well.

"It's good for the confidence of the team and for all our players and it's important to get a clean sheet.

We have to be ready for the next game on Saturday, it's an important game and we have to prepare as better as possible.

"It's something we need in this moment - to improve our defence. Today we did it well, but we need to keep doing in the same way in the next games if we want to improve our results.

"We need to get more clean sheets and can't concede so many goals. We've conceded seven goals in three games, it's something we need to improve to be more compact, more solid and in the same way improve our attack and prepare to take the chances we have."
