Watford head coach Quique Sanchez Flores has introduced a number of new rules to try and instil unity among his squad, according to defender Craig Cathcart.

Eating together and restricted phone use are just two small changes brought in by the new boss since his return to Vicarage Road as he looks to bring his players close together.

With Watford coming close to collecting their first win against Spurs after picking up their first league clean sheet since February against Sheffield United, Cathcart thinks the changes seem to be having a positive effect.

“I think he’s trying to get that same unity we had [last time],” said Cathcart.

“He’s made a couple of changes with the rules, nothing major just like things like mobile phones around the place and when we’re eating together, we all eat at the same time and not in dribs and drabs, just little simple things to try and bring us all together.

“I think it’s the way his style is and I think it’s been working so that’s probably the thing he’s tried to bring back a little bit.

“It just sort of brings everyone together, we’re all eating at the same time and especially with no mobile phones when we’re eating, you have to speak to each other and it’s always helpful.

“It took a couple of dinner times for us to get used to it again. We caught a couple of the lads with their phones out and we’re just telling them to put them away and I’m sure it’ll just be second nature.”

Looking ahead to the Bournemouth game this weekend, Cathcart said the current winless streak has become something of an albatross around the neck of the players.

The Hornets are currently the only league side in the country yet to pick up a win and the Northern-Irishman said it is something they are keen to put right as soon as possible.

“It’s something that’s on our mind,” he said.

“We want to win especially at home against Bournemouth - we know it’ll be a difficult game, but it’s a game we’re going to go into positive and try to get three points from.

“You get these spells in your career, you have to carry on, pick yourself up. It’s a difficult spell, but I’m sure it’s going to turn.”
