Lee Mason will be referee for Watford's home tie with Manchester United this Sunday, after the officials were announced for the festive period.

The game will be Mason's first at Vicarage Road this season, but will be his second Watford match after he oversaw the away game at Everton back in August.

The official was in charge of three Watford matches last season, including Premier League wins away at West Ham and Wolves, and the Carabao Cup clash against Tottenham Hotspur which ended in a penalty shootout defeat following a frantic 2-2 draw.

Belgian defender Christian Kabasele was given a red card by Mason during the Spurs match, which was later rescinded, while three goals were scored within the final ten minutes of normal time.

Assisting Mason will be Scott Ledger and Simon Long, while Graham Scott will be fourth official and Martin Atkinson will be VAR.

Meanwhile, the Boxing Day fixture away at Sheffield United will be officiated by David Coote, who will take charge of his first Watford match this season.

Troy Deeney was fined £20,000 last season for comments he made about the referee, when he claimed Coote had "bottled it" when it came to making big decisions during the 3-3 draw away at Bournemouth.

Coote also refereed the 2-0 win over Newcastle United in the FA Cup the same month.

Peter Kirkup and Nick Hopton will be assistant referees, while Ben Toner will be fourth official and Martin Atkinson will be on VAR duties.

Just two days later Watford will be in action again in their home game against Aston Villa, which will be overseen by Simon Hooper.

The game will be Hooper's fifth Premier League this season, with the official spending more time in the Championship so far.

It will be the official's first visit to Vicarage Road this campaign, although he did take charge of the EFL cup match away at Everton.

He will be assisted by Simon Bennett and Derek Eaton, while Stephen Martin will be fourth official and VAR will be Jonathan Moss.

Finally, the new year's day clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers will be refereed by Andy Madley.

The referee took charge for just one Hornets game last season when he oversaw the 3-2 home win over Cardiff City.

He has sent off five people already this season in just 11 games.

Adrian Holmes and Simon Beck will be his assistants for the game at Vicarage Road, while Charles Breakspear will be fourth official and Simon Hooper will be on VAR duties.
