Weather was an issue for many of the games in the West Herts leagues last weekend, but three games did manage to beat the rain and go ahead.

Hemel Hempstead Rovers welcomed Soul Survivor Watford of the Herts & Borders Churches League in their last 16 tie of the Herts FA Junior Cup and easily advanced to the quarter-finals with a resounding 5-0 win.

After an even opening 20 minutes, Hemel found the breakthrough they were after when Charlie Rance latched onto Rhys Stonebank’s through ball and slotted underneath the goalkeeper.

Soul Survivor’s stopper did well to palm away a Dan Perry effort shortly after, but he could do nothing to prevent Rance doubling his tally following good work from Adrian Keane.

Hemel managed to make it three before the break as Stonebank, the provider for the first goal, fired a scorching volley past the visiting goalkeeper.

The hosts remained on top after the break but wasted an opportunity to swiftly make it four when Tom Dean sent an effort narrowly wide.

Another chance went begging for Hemel as Lewis Swindells saw his effort parried away at point-blank range, but with the game as good as won, substitutes Rick Potton and Asher Alleyne came on to add some gloss to the scoreline and seal a 5-0 win.

The success moves Hemel into the quarter-finals where they will face tough opposition from Mill Lane, the current leaders of the Hertford & District Premier.

Also in the Junior Cup, Croxley Green came out on top in a nine-goal thriller against Kings Ports, winning 6-3.

After chances at both ends in a lively opening, Kings took the lead through an excellent Ryan Cole header, but they began to open up at the back and Green punished them with two quick goals before the break.

Cole grabbed his second of the game to level the scores again shortly after the restart, Green then edged in front but, again, they were pegged back, this time by Marvis Edmund.

Kings tired towards the end, though, and three goals without reply in the final 15 minutes recorded a comprehensive win for them. Goals came from Dan New (4), Harry West and Rohan Finnegan and they will go on to play Long Marston from the Aylesbury & District Premier in the quarter-final.

Finally, Sun Sports Rovers jumped up to third place in Division One after battling to a 4-2 win at home to Oxhey ‘A’.

Alex Halifax helped himself to a hat-trick for Rovers, who also netted through Glen Cook, while Dale Cavinder and Shaun Timpunza-Mvula got one apiece for Oxhey.
