Former Watford head coach Javi Gracia has signed up to support Woking with a fundraising initiative by paying to put his name on the non-league club's shirt next season.

Gracia's Watford team met Woking in the third round of the FA Cup last season on their way to reaching the final and Gracia developed something of an affinity for the Surrey side and their manager Alan Dowson, who famously gave the Spaniard a bottle of Newcastle Brown Ale as a gift after the match.

The initiative has offered supporters a number of different options to pay to have their names woven into next season's kits, in a bid to try and raise some money for the club, with no games currently taking place due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Gracia has reached out to Woking and paid to have his name included.

In a video shared via the Woking Twitter account, Gracia said: "After playing against Woking last season, I realised how special this club was. Now, in these difficult times we are living, I would like to support them in their campaign 'Get Behind the Shirt'.

"I've already ordered mine. That's all my support, take care my friends."

Following the trip to Woking last season, Gracia regularly spoke about his appreciation of Woking and said he regularly checked on their results.

Speaking the weekend after his Hornets side had knocked the Cards out of the FA Cup, he said he was pleased to see they had picked up some points in the league

"I enjoyed this experience because you can feel the real football. I was happy to be there and to enjoy that game," he said.

"I watched my phone, I knew they played and I saw the result. They won 2-0 and I said, 'Bravo'. After knowing this coach and these people there, I'm happy because they got a victory."
