One of Watford’s crop of international loanees has left the club on a permanent basis.

Brazilian striker Matheus Aias has joined Orlando City on a two-and-a-half year deal, with the option of a further year, the MLS club has announced.

The 23-year-old has spent the last two seasons on loan at Miarndes in Spain’s Segunda Division, scoring 11 goals in his 41 appearances in his first year to help the club to promotion.

Aias then netted 12 times in 34 appearances in 2019/20, six of which came in the Copa del Ray – a scoring run that saw his profile increase with goals against La Liga sides Villarreal, Sevilla and Real Sociedad as they reached the semi-finals.

The striker began his senior career with Granada in 2015, when it was under the ownership of the Pozzo family, before he moved onto Watford's books two years later.
