Watford have announced closing times for Vicarage Road this weekend as they prepare to host supporters for the first time since February.

2,000 fans will be present for the match against Cardiff City on Saturday after national lockdown restrictions reverted back to the regional tiered system this week.

It is hoped that by closing the road an hour before kick off and half an hour after the match, they can help supporters maintain social distancing as they make their way to and from the ground.

The closing times were announced via the Watford Borough Council twitter, who said: "We are delighted a limited number of spectators are being allowed back in for @WatfordFC game against @CardiffCityFC on Saturday. Watford FC has confirmed they will be closing Vicarage Road an hour before the 3PM kick-off and up to 30 minutes after the end of the game.

"This will allow visitors to social distance as they make their way to and from the ground.

If you are one of the lucky few attending please stay safe and always remember Hands, Face, Space."

The club are also backing the 'For the Love of Sport campaign, which promotes the safe return of fans to sporting events.

A message on the club website reads: "we are backing the sport-wide ‘For the Love of Sport’ campaign and we are asking you to, too. Support us to support you in ensuring your matchday experience is a safe one and that you can keep coming back and, in time, more of your fellow supporters will be able to join you. Let’s ensure that true family spirit, something the late, great Graham Taylor pioneered, shines through and we all look after one another.
