William Troost-Ekong said he played his part in Watford's defeat to Queens Park Rangers last night, but admits the whole team were not good enough.

Speaking to the club website after the match, the defender said he felt he could have done more to prevent Charlie Austin's equaliser but insisted the Hornets should have creating chances a lot more than they were defending them.

“Everyone knows today wasn’t good enough. We all have to look in the mirror and look at what we’ve done, starting with me," said Troost-Ekong.

“We never really got going, especially in the first half. After the goal we got a bit of a lift, but we have to be honest. I have to be honest with myself as well, I should’ve done better with the first goal.

“It’s been difficult because we were defending a lot and you’re going to make mistakes, and today QPR capitalised on those. We need to get more on the front foot.

“When we got possession of the ball we were in our half. QPR pinned us back for moments of the game, it was a long way to the other goal and we didn’t capitalise enough on the space in behind.

“We have to create more because when you’re playing at home you try to take the game to them, otherwise it’s difficult to hang on for so long and not concede. We need to attack better as a team to try and create more opportunities.”

This Saturday sees Watford travel to face Coventry City away.

The Hornets' form on the road has been underwhelming, with just three wins coming away from Vicarage Road, but Troost-Ekong has placed extra importance on the upcoming match, saying it could be a season-changing moment.

“It’s massive. That’s the moment that’s going to change our season," said the defender. "We’ve been excellent at home but we all know that for us to be fighting for the top two spots we have to do the same away.

“The moment has to come for us to stand up and we know Saturday’s going to be massive for us. All of us are very disappointed today and I think we’re going to see a lot of fire on Saturday to put it right."
