Watford captain Troy Deeney refused to be downhearted about the Hornets' 0-0 draw with Coventry City.

Once again, a lack of creativity hampered Xisco Munoz's men on the road, as they struggled to make meaningful chances in front of goal.

However, the captain insists that their three game winless run is just part and parcel of life in the Championship and said dealing with bad pitches, and other problems outside of their control, is not helping their cause at the moment.

“I'm not going to sit here all doom and gloom. Norwich haven't scored in three [league] games and teams go through patches," he told the club website after the match.

"We've got to keep going. It looked like a bad result against Millwall and then Norwich went there and got the same result. Games at places with pitches that aren't up to standard will catch people out and we didn't lose the game [today]. In years gone by we would have lost that one and yet towards the end we were the ones pushing. We've just got to be better, be a bit more street smart and get victories.”

Deeney produced Watford's most dangerous effort on goal when he headed against the bar in the second half.

The number nine said that a current lack of chances is causing tension up front, preventing the strikers from remaining composed in front of the net.

He understands that there is a need to improve however and said it is time to stop talking and to produce on the pitch.

“I was devastated with the header as I did everything right,” he said.

“It came out [off the bar] and we just need one to go in. I think we are tensing up a bit in front of goal. When you are getting plenty of chances you are more relaxed as you know you will get another if you miss one. But I'm not going to sulk. I'm going to crack on and we will get it sorted. We are still in the top six and that's the main thing. It's about getting promoted. How we do that is on us. It's down to us to deliver. We have to stop the talking and start winning games.”
