The EFL has confirmed 25 cases of Covid-19 from the latest round of testing, all from Watford's most recent opponents Rotherham United, and all from tests taken before the two sides met.

The Hornets beat the Millers 4-1 away at the New York Stadium on Tuesday night, with a number of the hosts' players and coaching staff absent from the match due to a mixture of coronavirus and injuries.

The day after that game, the EFL confirmed that a total of 5533 players and Club staff from all 72 EFL Clubs were tested between Monday, March 8 to Sunday March 14.

From those tests, 25 positive tests were returned, but 71 EFL sides returned zero positive tests throughout the period.

It has since been revealed that those positive tests were all from Rotherham.

Assistant boss Richie Barker, who took over in place of the absent Paul Warne on Tuesday, said the match probably should not have taken place after his side were well beaten.

"It has been a difficult time for everybody and, for me personally, the last 10 days have not been very nice," Barker said.

"It was not an ideal scenario to come back after one day's training and play against an ex-Premier League team who I am sure will be there or thereabouts in terms of promotion.

"From the viewpoint of player welfare, I would say it's not really the right decision and there were a good few players out there who have not been in a good shape over the last week, but we are also running out of time to fit games in and we needed to get this one over and done with."
