Tom Cleverley is hoping Watford can pay back their fans' support this weekend by getting the win that would guarantee their Premier League return.

In a club interview, the midfielder described Saturday's game against Millwall as a "massive opportunity" with three points enough to secure top flight football for next season.

He also said he wanted to pay back the club for sticking by him through more than one difficult injury.

“It's massive we bounce back," said Cleverley. "We have a real opportunity here to pay back the club, the fans and support the future of the football club.

“Ever since we got relegated, and with my injury problems, the club has stuck by me, I feel a personal debt and you can obviously see it's quite emotional for me. I'm the kind of guy who knows how well we are paid as footballers and when you are injured, you don't feel like the club are getting a return for that money.

"I now want to pay back everyone's hard work and those who have helped me and stuck by me personally. I feel I could make a big repayment if I can give another big performance on Saturday and help us do the job."

The club took a big step closer to sealing their top flight status for next season with a huge win on Tuesday night at Norwich City, while Swansea and Brentford both dropped points.

Cleverley felt, personally, he could have done more in the match, but realises just how big a win it was.

“It was right up there with the wins I've had since I've been here," he said. "We've been fairly good at reacting to losses this season and what pleased me the most was not only the performance level, but the character. We were bang up for it and we came out firing as we knew what we had to do. We went toe to toe with them and we thoroughly deserved the win. It was a very pleasing and significant win.

Watford Observer:

“I'm a bit of a perfectionist and I know I gave a few too many balls away, but physically I came through fine and I thought I grew into the game.

"I didn't get my second wind as soon as I would like, but I'm really pleased from a personal and team point of view from a high-level game."
