Daniel Bachmann has said he would not have left Watford this summer, "no matter what the offer was".

Following his impressive showing with Austria at Euro 2020, the goalkeeper was linked with moves away from Vicarage Road, including to Premier League rivals Arsenal.

However, in an interview with Sky, the 27-year-old said that his aim now is to solidify his place as number one choice with the Hornets.

"I had to go through a lot until I made the complete breakthrough," said Bachmann.

“There’ve been a few calls after the Euros, but it was clear to me from the start that I would not move, no matter what the offer was, because I’m enjoying the situation at Watford right now and I want to play in the Premier League for a year. I want to establish myself here.”

This Saturday Bachmann could get his first taste of English top flight football, if he is given the nod ahead of Ben Foster, and he said that the training ground is full of excitement for the Hornets' Premier League return.

"You can tell in the team that it's starting now," he said.

"The preparation was very long, almost seven weeks. Everyone is looking forward to it."

The Austrian will be optimistic that he can perform well again this season following his time with his nation this summer.

He feels he has learnt a lot from the tournament.

“The whole event was an unbelievable experience," he said.

"You never forget something like that. I’m incredibly proud to have been a part of it."
