Joao Pedro and Joshua King are set to miss the first match of Watford's Premier League campaign against Aston Villa.
The club had hoped King would recover from a groin problem that kept him out of last weekend's friendly at Crystal Palace, but the striker is still not quite ready.
The Hornets are now expecting him to be back in full training next week.
Pedro meanwhile will remain out for a while after sustaining a knee injury in the pre-season win over Millwall just over a month ago.
Nathaniel Chalobah will miss out through illness, while the club have confirmed that both Adam Masina and Domingos Quina are available once again.
Other than that, the team are expected to be near full fitness, although Will Hughes remains with the Under 23s due to his ongoing contract issues.
