Xisco Munoz felt Watford's 3-2 win over Aston Villa was the perfect example of his side's team spirit.

After Ismaila Sarr and Emmanuel Dennis combined well in the first half to have the Hornets 2-0 up at half time, substitute Cucho Hernandez came off the bench to score what turned out to be the winning goal, with Villa pulling two back late on.

The head coach said it showed his players why the team's ethos and shared values are so important.

"Today it's a very good example that it's not only who starts, it's also who comes off the bench has to give a good level," said Munoz. "The team understands everyone is important in our squad.

"We have a very good squad and everyone needs to work with team spirit and the same values and in some games we will need one player in other games we will need another player and we need to work like this."

The Spaniard said the day was "amazing" overall, with supporters filling Vicarage Road for the first time since February 2020.

"It was a very good day today, on Graham Taylor day," he said. "Our fans came back in our stadium, it was amazing atmosphere and also I'm very happy with the players because they have worked hard for seven weeks, morning, afternoon, morning, afternoon to try and arrive at the first game better. And for me my first game in the Premier League, I enjoyed it because it was a very good game."

While Sarr and Dennis were arguably the stand out performers in the match, Munoz was pleased with the way his players understood the game and worked out how they could exploit their opponents' space.

"The most important is the team understands what's happening in the game," he said.

"I think the team was narrow, the most important was to understand where is the space and which space we need to attack. We tried to give space for Dennis and Sarr and it was a brilliant first half because we scored two times and had more chances to score, this today was our game.

"It was a narrow game and we tried to stop the space behind us because we know Aston Villa would try to put the ball in behind us, and we try always to get good transitions, the team understands what happened in the game and it was a very good performance."
