Watford opened their Premier League campaign with an exemplary win over Aston Villa, in which several new arrivals shone for Xisco Munoz.

Here's how we rated their individual efforts.

Daniel Bachmann – 7

Not a lot he could’ve done with either goal. Otherwise, he commanded his area well and looked in control between the sticks.

Craig Cathcart – 7.5

A calm performance out of position. Didn’t have a lot thrown at him, but definitely proved he is capable of playing in that position, although Leon Bailey made life difficult in the second half.

William Troost-Ekong – 8

Looked like a real leader in the centre. Kept Danny Ings and Emiliano Buendia really quiet.

Christian Kabasele – 8

Returned to the fold after a while of not being in the team, but didn’t look rusty at all. A great display.

Adam Masina – 7

A clumsy challenge to concede the penalty, but otherwise looked decent.

Juraj Kucka – 8

An absolute monster in the centre of the pitch. Broke up so much of Villa’s attack and had the quick thinking required to get the ball moving again.

Tom Cleverley – 7.5

Did a lot of hard work and found Sarr out on the wing time after time with well-played passes.

Peter Etebo – 8

Looks a very astute signing. A great performance, full of effort.

Ismaila Sarr – 9

Had the beating of Matt Targett throughout the first half and showed just why the Hornets can’t afford to lost him this season.

Ken Sema – 7.5

Caused problems down the left, but should have shot in the second half when he had the chance.

Emmanuel Dennis – 9

Combined so well with Sarr and took his goal really well. Excited to see what he can do in the future.
