A Watford footballer has been banned from driving after police say he nearly caused a crash while travelling at more than 90mph in a 50mph zone.

A police officer said it was a "miracle" Dapo Mebude didn't collide with another vehicle after he appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Monday September 13, the Scottish Sun reported.

Mebude, 20, who signed for Watford in the summer after leaving Rangers, was convicted of careless driving and fined £100 and banned from the road for four weeks.

The court heard Mebude had been driving at more than 90mph in his Mercedes GLA 200 on the M8 motorway in Glasgow on April 2 last year.

Sheriff Mary Shields found the forward, who is currently on loan at AFC Wimbledon, guilty of careless driving after he was originally accused of dangerous driving.
