Oxhey Jets’ revival under their new management team continued as they made it seven points in seven days with a thrilling 3-2 victory over MK Irish, despite having a player sent off for the third game running.

Every game is a new test for the young and experimental Jets side as boss Kevin Christou and assistant James Gibbs continue to shape the squad they want, although their job is being made unnecessarily harder by a combination of avoidable yellow cards and contentious refereeing decisions.

Jets certainly had reason to feel aggrieved in the first half when Dean Florence was played through by an up and over and the ball was punched in the air by a defender, but the referee gave the decision to the visitors.

The home side had chances to make the breakthrough but the final ball was not up to standard until five minutes before the break when Ricardo Adewuyi’s delivery was stroked home by Kyal Wlliams.

Jets were celebrating again on Saturday

However, Jets were to be reduced to ten men again soon after the restart when Ben Barnett, who had been booked in the first half for protesting, picked up what his side felt was a soft second yellow card for a foul.

To add to their frustration, Oliver Coleman headed home the resultant free-kick to make it 1-1 after 50 minutes.

However, Jets were back in front ten minutes later when outstanding skipper Harry Beaumont’s free-kick found Steven Wade and he blasted home at the back post.

It was almost 3-1 moments later when a superb save denied Wade from a header.

There was to be another controversial twist with 20 minutes remaining when the referee’s assistant indicated a goal kick, but the referee decided it was corner from which Dominic Lawless equalised.

Ten-man Jets were hanging on at times and increasingly reliant on the counter-attack but with eight minutes remaining Williams struck a superb winner after Florence had been fouled.

The victory moved Jets up to 15th in the Spartan South Midlands Premier Division table but they face a tough test tomorrow night when high-flying Risborough Rangers bring their unbeaten record to the Boundary Stadium.
